Petrus van Breda was born in Carltonville in 1986 and currently runs his own business in Thabazimbi.
A shooting accident in 1996 resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee. Petrus is a member Platinum Health and became a client of Icexpress Progressive Prosthetics in 2010.
He subsequently also became a member of Team Icexpress and has been competing in the F44 Discus, Javelin and Shot Put events on regional and national level ever since. Petrus is well positioned to qualify to compete at international level in the future.
2010 | August – Achieves the Qualifying Standard (QS) in Javelin (31.65m) and Shot Put (10.75m) at the SASAPD-SASCOC Invitational at the University of Johannesburg |
2010 | September – Betters his QS distance in Javelin with a throw of 32.39m, as well as in the Shot put (11.2m) at the regional trials held at Pilditch. Van Breda also achieves a 30.7m distance in the Discus thereby qualifying to compete at Nationals in all three field disciplines |
2011 | March – At the Nedbank National Championships in Rustenburg, van Breda took gold with a distance of 31.49m in the Discus, gold with a distance of 35.01m in the Javelin, and gold with a distance of 10.87m in the Shot Put |
